Ross Whitlock Biography
Ross Whitlock was born and educated in Wanganui, studied at Auckland University, and at the Elam School of Fine Art, and returned to Wanganui as Director of Art at the Collegiate School from 1981 to 1988. Then he travelled extensively in Australia and England, studying painting returning to teach and paint in Palmerston North.
He was appointed HOD Art and Arts Coordinator at the Wellington Diocesan School for Girls (Nga Tawa) from 1993 to 2006. He has exhibited frequently over recent years both in solo and group exhibitions and reviews, winning prizes and awards including the Popular Price in the Wanganui Arts Awards, and the Certificate of Merit at the Manawatu Art Expo and the Spring Exhibition Nelson Suter Arts Society in 2007. He has been highly commended in several Telecom Art Awards.
His work is now in private collections in America, Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland, as well as in Australia and New Zealand. He was awarded Master of Fine Arts, with first class honours from the Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, 2003. He retired from teaching in 2006, and moved to Nelson to continue his career as a painter.
